Colin, a retired Detective Chief Inspector with Kent Police, joined Staplehurst Cricket and Tennis Club as a cricketer in 1992 and is a true Club man!

As a reliable all-rounder with both bat and ball, playing for the Saturday 1st Team, he was captain from 1996-1997 and served on the Cricket Committee for nearly 10 years including a stint as Cricket Chairman.

He was instrumental in bringing through a number of juniors into the senior teams when he was junior cricket coach from 1996-2000 and also set up the Sunday Kent Village League team, predominantly for the development of young players, which he captained until 2004

Colin has been a Vice President of the Club since 2008.

Aside from Staplehurst, Colin played cricket for Kent Over 50’s, Over 60’s and currently plays for the Kent Over 70’s who are the National Champions!  He’s actually an international cricketer too having played four times each for England Over 60’s and England Over 70’s.

So we welcome Colin, and his wife Val, and here’s to a successful two year Presidency!

Joy has been a member of the club over 35 years!  She joined as a tennis member at the age of 13 and since then her roles have included Chairman, Secretary, Junior Cricket Director, Head Tea Lady and, together with husband Alan, running the Bar and Clubhouse. Her tireless enthusiasm is legendary and with two sons, Tom and Oli, playing cricket for Staplehurst, we are optimistic that she will remain as a cornerstone for many more years. Joy always puts the club first and this is evident in her forward thinking approach and knowledge of everything SC&TC.  She has recently started playing tennis again after a ten year break and won the Ladies Singles title in the Club Champsionships in 2022.

Michael and his family are born and bred in Staplehurst and can trace their family back in the village for over 300 years. He works for the Bilsteingroup which is one of the largest independent companies supplying automotive components to the independent aftermarket. Michael has worked for the company for nearly 20 years holding multiple directors posts such as product management, quality and is currently one of the companies purchasing directors. His 14 year-old son Harvey is a keen cricketer who has been playing for the Club for over five years as well representative district level for Central Cavaliers. PS Michael is a big Star Wars fan if you hadn’t guessed already!

John Robins has been Club Treasurer for over 25 years.  An acknowledged authority on VAT exemptions and PAYE regimes, as well as the UK’s motorway network and local weather forecasts, he is always willing to discuss these at the corner of the bar with anyone looking to kill a few hours.  He may also mention his captaincy of the 1st XI in one of its most successful periods and the specific gravity of his favourite ale.

Jo became Secretary in 2019 and has been an active member of the Club for several years.  She is one of the Club’s keenest tennis members and can be seen on the courts most days!  And is often seen on the decking, with a drink in hand, supporting her cricket playing husband Phil.  As a keen runner, she is also a  team leader of the resident Staplehurst Running Club.

Tom has been a member of the Club since birth!  He started playing junior cricket aged 7 and progressed through all the Junior teams and is now Vice Captain of the men’s Saturday 1st XI.   Tom is also a keen tennis player and was a finalist in the men’s doubles Club championships in 2022.

Ray is perhaps best known as Mr Homeleigh, as proprietor of our main Club sponsor.   He has been a longstanding member of the Club – approaching the 50 years that Homeleigh has operated in Staplehurst – and a vice president for almost as long.   He was Club president in 2016-17 and elected to the Board for a four year term in 2018.

Di has been an active member of the club for over 25 years during which time she spearheaded numerous fundraising projects and social functions to support our Lottery Funding application in 1995. For many years she provided hot suppers after cricket matches, our President’s Day lunch and is still a current tea lady. Her son came up through the Junior ranks to play senior cricket and her husband, Pete, is a qualified umpire. Di is supportive of the club’s development plans for its continued growth whilst maintaining a welcoming, ‘family feel’ environment for all. She is always a willing ‘go to’ person and is our Club President for 2018/19.

Since joining the Club Tracey has been actively involved in all forms of event promotions and has been a head Tea Lady during this time. Her unbounded enthusiasm for fundraising events has been of great benefit, and along with her family Tracey can frequently be found in the Clubhouse at weekends.

Jack is the Head Coach at Staplehurst Cricket and Tennis Club and is a LTA Level 3 Coach. He loves working with adults and juniors to improve their games. He’s been playing tennis from the age of 6 and his LTA rating continues to climb, with him playing in many local county events and he captains the Horsmonden Team Tennis 2nd team.

Jack’s been involved in coaching since 2007 when he started buddy hitting before taking the leap to fully-fledged coaching. He joined HOTSHOTZ full-time in 2015 and became the Head Coach at Staplehurst in 2017. He is heavily involved in building the programmes at each club and plans to study for his LTA level 4 coaching qualification in 2020.
