The annual Whitsun Bank Holiday Six-a-side cricket tournament takes place at the Club today.

Come done and enjoy all the thrills and spills of this fun, action packed, non-stop event from 11.30 am.

The bar is open all day.

Staplehurst play Newenden

Staplehurst Sunday XI are playing Newenden at Newenden today.

Play starts at 2.00pm and you can keep uptodate with progress on Live Scores on the Club App.

The bar at the Club is open from 12 noon anyway. And coffee is being served during junior training from 9.30am. Feel free to drop down and see all our juniors in action.

Charity Match – TONIGHT

Come along and support tonight’s charity T20 cricket match between a Staplehurst Cricket & Tennis Club XI and a Staplehurst Monarchs All Stars XI on from 6.00pm.

The game is supporting Tom Mackelden’s fundraising for Cancer Research UK in memory of his mother, Tania, who died of the disease when Tom was 19. Tom was a junior member of both sports clubs and many of those involved in the event knew both Tom and his mum.

Since Tania’s death three years ago, Tom has raised thousands of pounds for cancer research and earlier this year received a civic award from Staplehurst Parish Council for his efforts.

The match is being held ahead of an annual football match at Maidstone United’s Gallagher stadium on June 7 which, this year, is supporting two charities – Cancer Research UK and the MS Society – as it’s being organised by Tom and colleague, Dan Canning, who lost his mother to MS a few months ago.

As the lads put it:
“two illnesses, two mums, two sons, one goal…
….to raise money for two charities extremely close to our hearts but also to raise awareness of two of the biggest killers in the world.”

So please try and make it along to the Club and help the fundraising on the night.

And enjoy a drink at the bar while watching the action.

Welcoming new parents

As we finalise the membership administration for all this year’s new joiners – whether All Stars, 9-16 junior cricket, or Swallows & Amazons – welcome to the Club App.

This is our primary member communication platform. We hope it will keep you informed and uptodate on all the activities in the Club.

If you want to communicate with the Club quickly or urgently, please use the chat rooms – there are separate ones for junior cricket, All Stars and Swallows & Amazons parents.

Three quick reminders:

– all our All Star and cricketers age 5-9 are welcome to join our Swallows & Amazons programme on Wednesday evenings, 5-6pm at Club, for FREE. If you want to know more about Swallows & Amazons, take a look at the information sheet under documents on the App. Just turn up on the night but it would be helpful to let us know you are coming

– All Stars parents: you have been exceptionally good at completing the Club membership forms for your child(ren). So much better than in past years! But we still have 5-6 outstanding. If you have lost your form, you will find one attached to this message.

– A number of you have asked about joining as family members so, as parents or older siblings, you can play on the tennis courts while cricket training is on. It’s very straightforward – just fill in the family membership form next time you are at the Club – and we will even deduct the All Stars Cricket fee from the £108 annual cost which can then also be spread across 12 months paying by direct debit.

Frittenden Road Closure – UPDATE

Update: Judging by last night, it looks as though road will be open to pedestrians and smaller vehicles from around 4.30pm. Interesting chicane challenge!

Frittenden Road will be closed this week between the A229 main road and the Club for water and electricity roadworks.

Closure is scheduled for 5 days from today until Friday.

Access to the Club with therefore be via the diversion from Headcorn Road along Cradducks Lane or through Frittenden.

Club users should ensure they incorporate more time for their journey for the duration of the road closure.
